Job Description

The Psychiatry Department is part of a large behavioral health program that includes 15 physicians and 4 nurse practitioners and a team of licensed professional staff. Our services include an inpatient program that offers 24-hour supervision and focuses on crisis stabilization as well as a partial hospitalization program for children whose needs are less emergent. Our Nurse Practitioners function collaboratively with physicians to perform patient assessments, diagnose and treat mental health conditions, and formulate treatment plans according to approved protocols. This is an opportunity for practitioners to develop and maintain their own volume of patients and provide coverage for physicians during periods of absence. Practitioners plan and prescribe a variety of modalities to meet wellness and illness needs, up to and including hospital admission and prescriptive authority.

A degree from an accredited school of nursing and Masters of Science in Nursing is required. Minimum of two years' experience either as a pediatric nurse or family nurse practitioner in a primary or acute care setting preferred. Experience in behavioral health is strongly preferred. Licensure to practice professional nursing and recognition from the State Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advanced Practice Nurse is required for Texas. Certification as a Pediatric or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and current certification in Basic Life Support is required.
