Job Description

The Facility Dog Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of our resident dog program, Sit Stay Play. The Coordinator will handle one of the facility dogs, as well as provide oversight for the handling of the dogs in the program, the referral process for therapeutic visits with patients, rounding on staff, and participation in applicable research utilizing the resident dogs. As a staff member of Family Support Service, the Facility Dog Program Coordinator will demonstrate a commitment to Cook Children's Health Care System operating values and integrate them into each job function.


  • Bachelor's degree in Child Life or a related field is required
  • Must be a Certified Child Life Specialist
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with hospitalized children is required
  • Trained and certified as an official dog handler by Canine Assistants is required within 90 days of employment
  • Previous experience working with Animal Assisted Therapy dogs is highly preferred
  • BLS certification is required within 60 days of employment
